I LOVE THE SAXOPHONE SO MUCH I WROTE A SONG ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE THE SAXOPHONE!!!!

“Saxo Love” is about my complete and total admiration for the saxophone in all aspects.  This song is about the fact that I have had nothing but positive experiences because of the sax.  I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world, earn money, support myself and my family, and spread insane amounts of joy to friends and strangers because of this instrument.  I know so many people that are passionate about playing and listening to the saxophone that I felt we needed an anthem.

I recruited my dear friend Harley Barnard on the drums for this tune and he did not disappoint.  He’s actually more of a jazz and rock drummer but he performed this spicy reggae beat flawlessly. Thanks man!

As far as horns, I will admit that there are two trumpets and two trombones within the 7-piece horn section that makes up the chorus.  The funny part is… I played their parts on the saxophone! Yes! For this song, I was able to assign trumpet and trombone patches to my EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) and build the horn section digitally along with 3 saxophones (2 tenor, 1 alto) that were recorded live.  I personally love how the horn section follows the vocal line and plays exactly what I’m kind of humming in the beginning.  This was super fun.

As far as the solos.. I knew I couldn’t disappoint.  I mean, this song is about the saxophone and how great it is, so the solos better be top notch.  I think they were some of my best work.  The first solo is an alto saxophone that lays the foundation for the rest of the song and also takes a stab at the main line.  I like that I was able to use the space within the song on this solo and not rush it.  

The second solo section is the tenor sax, and I didn’t hold anything back on this one.  I knew it had to be good, so I used a lot of the weapons in my arsenal: speed, harmonies, backing saxes, and a nice little drum+sax breakdown to begin the solo.  

Seriously, the saxophone is the greatest instrument of all time.  Every musician secretly wishes they played it.  I’m so passionate and hopeful about this instrument.  The future is ours! I hope you enjoy “Saxo Love” as much as I enjoyed making it!!!
